Veneers at Daniel Tebbi DMD Cosmetic Dentistry And Orthodontics, Encino California 91436
Veneers are wafer-thin pieces of porcelain that are used for cosmetic dental purposes. They are used to treat teeth that are damaged, chipped, cracked, spaced too far apart from each other, discolored, and misshapen.
At our dental practice in Encino, we only use the best quality ceramic to fabricate veneers. They would offer excellent strength, durability, longevity, and can be customized to perfectly match the appearance of the natural teeth. Together, all these factors contribute to restoring the tooth perfectly and giving you a great smile.
What are veneers used for?
- Cracked teeth: The teeth may crack when you take a hard blow to the mouth, have a bad fall or bite into something too hard. The cracked tooth can be restored by bonding a veneer to its surface as it helps to cover the crack and prevent it from becoming bigger.
- Misshapen and chipped teeth: Teeth that have lost a certain edge due to trauma or the teeth that are naturally misshapen can be restored using veneers. The veneer can be shaped in such a way that it perfectly resembles the contour and aesthetics of the tooth.
- Spacing: Teeth that are spaced too far apart from each other can make your smile look shabby. It is a type of malocclusion and is caused due to a wide dental arch or due to the drifting of the teeth when a tooth is extracted. Veneers can be bonded to their surface to eliminate excessive spaces.
- Discoloration: Discoloration of the teeth can occur due to consuming a lot of colored foods or improper brushing of the teeth. This can leave a layer of plaque on the teeth that make them look yellowish or brownish in color. Though whitening solutions can be used to get a brighter smile, extensive staining cannot be gotten rid of using this method. In such cases, veneers can be used to give the teeth an aesthetically pleasing appearance.
How are veneers bonded?
During the initial screening, the dentist would screen the teeth for damage, discoloration, malocclusion, gum diseases, plaque and tartar accumulation, etc. After this, a thin layer of enamel will be removed to make space for the veneer. X-rays, scans, and digital molds of the tooth would be taken to serve as a reference for fabricating the veneer. Until the veneer is fabricated, a temporary prosthetic may be placed on the tooth.
Once the permanent veneer is fabricated, the teeth will be cleaned thoroughly, etched using an etching solution and the prosthetic will be bonded to it using dental adhesives. A curing light will be used to harden the adhesive, after which a bite test will be conducted. If any changes are required, they would be made to give you the perfect smile.
