Information about CPAP Equipment
What is Sleep Apnea? Sleep apnea is a sleeping disorder caused due to partial or complete obstruction of the airway. It is characterized by short pauses in breathing while asleep, which the patient wouldn’t be aware of. In severe cases, the roof of the mouth collapses and blocks the airway completely, thereby depriving the patient of their required supply of oxygen. This makes them wake up with a jolt, often feeling quite traumatized.
How can sleep apnea be treated?
Sleep apnea can be reduced in severity by making a few changes to the everyday routine. Some of them are eating healthy, avoiding junk food, reducing or completely stopping alcohol consumption and smoking tobacco, following regular sleep routines, etc. Along with these, professional dental help can be given in the form of a CPAP device.
What is a CPAP device?
CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. It is a device that provides the patient with a continuous supply of oxygen by means of a comfortably-fitting mask and a pressurized oxygen tank. Just before you go to sleep, you will have to put the mask on your nose and mouth. It wouldn’t interrupt your sleep or cause discomfort. The positive pressure maintained by the oxygen supply helps to keep the airway open throughout the night, thereby preventing pauses in breathing and the collapse of tissues from the throat. It is known to be one of the best treatment solutions to counter sleep apnea.
